ABOUT US and OUR MISSION

ABOUT US The Organization for Renal Care in Haiti (TORCH), Inc. was organized in 2014 and operated exclusively as a charitable corporation for medical and educational purposes within the meaning of Chapter 180 of the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (as amended from time to time). In particular, TORCH will (A) educate and train medical professionals in Haiti and provide medical resources and equipment to facilities in Haiti so that they can provide treatment to individuals with kidney disease or related conditions who do not have sufficient economic resources and (B) to conduct such other activities and programs not inconsistent with the mission and applicable regulations. Such other activities are to help set up and finance preventive measures designed to detect and slow progression of chronic kidney diseases, for example, diabetic or hypertensive kidney disease. TORCH has no paid employees, functioning entirely with volunteers. To date, over 97% of its expenditures have been utilized to forward the TORCH mission in Haiti. With the help of TORCH and its allied partners, the Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais (HUM), a Partners in Health facility, in Haiti became the first US Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited facility in a low resource country. TORCH helped to initiate hemodialysis at HUM, saving the lives of over 100 patients with acute kidney failure. MISSION The mission of TORCH is to bring lifesaving medical care to patients with kidney disease in Haiti that is not available to them. To achieve this goal, TORCH will provide education, medical equipment, training and other resources to medical professionals and facilities in Haiti so that they can provide treatments to individuals with kidney disease and related conditions who would otherwise not receive such treatments.
